How the Dogtra Training Collar Works
The Dogtra collar is designed to provide clear, consistent communication between the trainer (or owner) and the dog. Unlike outdated “shock collars” that people associate with harsh training methods, the Dogtra collar uses low-level stimulation to get the dog’s attention.
Here’s how we use it:
✔ Lowest Effective Setting – We only use the collar on the lowest level that the dog responds to. For many dogs, this feels like a light vibration or static sensation—not pain.
✔ Reinforcing Commands – The collar is used in conjunction with verbal commands and positive reinforcement, helping dogs understand what is expected of them.
✔ Off-Leash Freedom – One of the biggest benefits is that dogs can learn to listen reliably even when off-leash, giving them more freedom while staying safe.
Why This Isn’t “Shocking” Training
Think of the Dogtra collar like a tap on the shoulder.
It’s simply a way to redirect your dog’s focus when they get distracted.
In fact, most dogs quickly understand what’s being asked of them and require very little stimulation after initial training.
The goal is always clear communication, NOT punishment.
Many professional trainers and working dog handlers rely on Dogtra because it allows for precise, humane training.
Used correctly, it helps create happy, well-behaved dogs who respond quickly and reliably to commands.
Changing the Narrative
Misinformation about e-collars has led some people to assume they are cruel, but the reality is that poor training, not the tool itself, leads to problems.
Just like a leash, a training collar is only as good as the person using it. At K9 Consultant, we train both dogs and owners to use the Dogtra collar effectively and humanely.
If you have any questions or concerns about how we use training collars, we’d love to talk. Our goal is to help every dog live a happier, safer life through clear, compassionate training!
